STATEMENT FROM THE CCGOP CHAIRMAN GREG FINGAR
ELECTION 2021
To Candidates, Committee members, elected officials:
The GOP had a good night around New York State and the nation on Tuesday.
The best news for Columbia County and our county GOP was that we kept firm control of the county Board of Supervisors, winning critical supervisor races in Kinderhook, Claverack, Ghent, Stuyvesant, and Germantown. Our congratulations and appreciation go to Supervisor-elect Tim Ooms of Kinderhook, Supervisor Kippy Weigelt of Claverack, Supervisor-elect Craig Simmons of Ghent, Supervisor Ron Knott of Stuyvesant and Supervisor-elect David Helsley of Germantown.
Also re-elected and running without opposition were Supervisor Rob Lagonia of Austerlitz, Supervisor Ryan Skoda of Taghkanic, and Supervisor Jim Guzzi of Livingston.
GOP control of the Board means a continuation of fiscally responsible and capable management of county government.
My major disappointment was the loss of Sheriff Dave Bartlett. Sheriff Bartlett has capably served the people of our county in the department for over 30 years, the last eight as sheriff. We express our gratitude for his public service and extend our best wishes to Dave, Lori, and the entire Bartlett family.
We also congratulate Sheriff-elect Don Krapf and wish him a successful tenure in his new role.
I was especially pleased at our statewide success in defeating ballot propositions 1, 3, and 4. These were simply efforts by legislative Democrats to rig our political system to benefit their party and it is gratifying to see that the people of our state voted strongly against these constitutional amendments.
Linked here are full results from the Albany Times Union. While absentee ballots won’t be counted until later this month, we’re confident that our victories will be confirmed.
Thanks again for all your hard work on behalf of the people of Columbia County and our Republican Committee. Please also, be sure to pick up any GOP yard signs ASAP.
Greg Fingar, County Chairman
