The facts about Columbia County Emergency Management
It is beyond belief that, in the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Columbia County Democratic Party would politicize the restructuring of the County Emergency Management Office, but they are.
The Emergency Management Office has worked tirelessly to respond to the public safety threat posed by this pandemic, despite bureaucratical red tape that has hindered their efforts. This restructuring helps to cut that red tape and streamlines the emergency management process. Having Emergency Management report directly to the Board of Supervisors will improve response times to emergency management requests and State of Emergency Declarations.
There is a lot of misinformation being circulated about the proposal to make the Emergency Management office a free standing department, answering directly to the Board of Supervisors. This Fact Sheet was distributed to all 23 Town Supervisors to fully inform them and to help them understand the importance of this restructuring.
