What is a Tea Party Republican?

John Wallace

Recently, a liberal Democrat asked me what is a Tea Party Republican and where have we been for the last 9 years or so. This statement was right out of the National Democratic Party playbook, because he blamed the George W. Bush administration for everything but the weather. He asked that Tea Party Republicans come forward with solutions, but only if we agreed not to criticize the great progressive socialist agenda of Barack Obama. He cautioned us not to use hateful speech directed at people of color, not to wrap ourselves in the flag, not to carry guns to political rallies and not to be paranoid about all things foreign or international. Wow, wasn’t that big of him.

Although the Tea Party movement is only about three years old, many concerned Americans, including myself, have been involved in the non-partisan, non-violent Liberty movement for many, many years. The movement includes mostly Republicans, but there is also a sprinkling of Democrats, Libertarians, Conservatives, Liberals, Independents and anyone else who wants a limited federal government.  Although I might have agreed with him on a couple of issues he raised, the problems facing this great country have been caused by the actions of elected officials from both the Republican and Democrat parties over a long period of time. Their actions and in some cases their inactions, have given us the ever growing and more intrusive federal government that we have today.

For many, many decades and under both Republican and Democrat administrations, America has been in an almost constant state of undeclared war that has cost over 70,000 American lives, all without formal Declarations of War and in violation of the constitution.  We have been incurring trillions of dollars worth of debt for programs and activities that are not authorized by the constitution. We have immigration laws on the books that have been ignored by several administrations. We have a President who refuses to prove he is a natural born citizen. We are using hackable computerized voting machines to count our votes in secret. We have instituted welfare policies that have encouraged irresponsibility, the breakdown of the family, and a generational cycle of dependency on government. Our government schools have become places of political and social indoctrination rather than education with an ever increasing number of students graduating from high school unable to read at a 4th grade level or to perform basic math functions.

I, like the liberal Democrat, believe that Barack Obama is the best thing that has happened to America in the last 100 years, but not for the same reasons.

Although the Liberty movement began with disenfranchised Republicans and Libertarians, it gained real traction towards the end of George W. Bush’s administration. I believe that history will see Barack Obama as the prime source of America’s resurrection of individual Freedom and Liberty, lead by the Republican Party. In just one year, Mr. Obama has plunged the country into levels of debt that we could not have previously imagined, more debt than the previous 43 presidents combined. His corporate bailouts, stimulus spending, proposed cap and trade taxation, amnesty for illegal aliens, government mandated healthcare and other unconstitutional and misguided legislation have awakened not only the American people, but the Republican Party as well.

Average Americans, who have quietly gone about their lives in the past, are finally waking up to what is happening to their country. Literally millions of Americans have had enough. They are organizing, studying the Constitution and the Federalist Papers. They are once again reading American history, becoming activists, showing up at rallies and voicing their opinions at town hall meetings. There is a keen awareness among freedom loving Americans that our priorities must be radically changed before its too late. Just as the pendulum swung to embrace political correctness, liberalism and corporatism, we are now seeing the beginning stages of a backlash, a complete repudiation of almost a hundred years of nonsense and yes, the Tea Party Republican movement is a part of this backlash, but only a small part.

I believe that Mr. Obama, in just over one year, has become the symbol of a creeping, progressive liberalism that has infected our society like a cancer for the last 50 to 100 years. The cancer has now metastasized to the point where the unconstitutional actions of the ever growing and more intrusive federal government can no longer be ignored by the vast majority of the American people.

A hundred years from now, history will perceive the year 2010 as the time when the American people and the Republican Party, with a nudge from the Tea Partiers, finally got back on track and started to take back control of their constitutional servant government. And for that, we can thank Barack Hussein Obama.
